If the book is issued to your library record, then you don’t need to do anything. The ILL book will be renewed automatically wherever possible. Library staff will extend the loan 3 days before the due date, and you will receive an email with the new return date. If you have finished with the book, then please return it.

Not all books are renewable: check the bookmark that came with your ILL loan to see whether the item is likely to be renewable.

Books will be renewed regularly up to a maximum of a year, or until the lending library tell us that renewal is no longer possible. When the lending library is unable to renew the loan any further, we will email you and ask you to bring the book back to the library. Fines are charged at £1.00 per day for late return.

Renewals of uncollected ILL books or Confined Loans are not automatic. Contact the ILL team at interlibrary.loans@durham.ac.uk  to request a renewal. Please try to notify us three days before the end of the collection/consultation date and we will do what we can to arrange a renewal.
